Korean report says former CXMT executive was pressured to bring back Samsung DRAM process data

A report by South Korea’s JoongAng Ilbo, cited by ChainCatcher, says a written court statement obtained by the newspaper describes alleged pressure inside ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) in late 2016. According to the statement from a former CXMT equipment investment executive identified only by the surname Jeon, former CXMT CEO Wang Ningguo called in a Korean team between October and December 2016 and demanded that they bring back Samsung Electronics process recipe plan, or PRP, materials and equipment information. Jeon said Wang told the team that if they failed to do so, he would report them to the South Korean government, and also warned that he had connections to verify the facts and that they should not lie. Jeon said he felt afraid at the time. The report also says CXMT management used “Huangshan” as a code name for Samsung Electronics. The same report links the statement to an ongoing case involving Samsung’s 18 nm DRAM technology, details of the PRP files, another former engineer now under an Interpol red notice, and CXMT’s founding capital and first annual profit reported last year.
